Did you know that every 13 minutes, someone dies as the result of an auto accident in the United States? Not only that, but every 14 seconds someone gets hurt in an auto accident. This means that bad auto accidents cause about 32,850 fatalities, and 3 million injuries.
What’s even scarier is the fact that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that an average of 10 million bad car accidents in the United States go unreported, which means that these auto accidents statistics report numbers that are unrealistically low.
Considering the fact that there are so many ways to get into accidents, it’s only natural that there’s so many accidents each day in the United States. While some of the causes of car accidents are pretty logical, like being distracted, intoxicated, or drowsy, there are some other, more peculiar ways people get into bad car accidents.
Here are a few of the oddest, bad car accidents claims to ever be seen by lawyers.
Daylight Savings
Believe it or not, day light savings actually causes bad car accidents. The subtle changes in people’s sleeping patterns and circadian rhythms that are caused by daylight savings alters peoples’ alertness, making them careless.
Choking on an Apple
Eating while you drive is a form of distracted driving, which is the leading cause of bad car accidents in the country. However, one 55 year old truck driver didn’t get into his accident because he was distracted by his apple — he crashed because he was choking on it! Ironically, the crash made him slam into his steering wheel, which caused the piece of apple to dislodge. Basically, the car crash saved his life.
Getting Older
Sometimes when people get older, they start to slowly lose their control of their mental faculties, which might make them do strange things. Back in 2013, one senior citizen drove his car through a pizzeria. However, because his car was so small, it fit seamlessly through the doors and caused no damage.
These are just a few of the weirdest bad car accidents we could find. If you know of any others, feel free to share them in the comments.
