Elderberry Park
Nearby Elderberry Park at 1297 W 5th Ave. is a great place for a relaxing walk and some fresh air. This beautiful park was acquired as a patent from the US Government in 1917, and is on Block 35 of what was the original Anchorage township site. Today Elderberry Park has benches for enjoying the outdoor air and play areas for children of all ages. There is park equipment for children aged 2-12 years.

Oscar Anderson House Museum
Adjacent to Elderberry Park and near Robert Stone Law Office LLC is the Oscar Anderson House Museum. This home was built in 1915 by Oscar Anderson, who claimed to be the 18th person to set foot in the “Tent City” at Ship Creek. Anderson was an avid businessman. He contributed to Anchorage commerce in air transportation, meatpacking, and coal production. He was also involved in newspaper publishing. In 1976 Anderson’s widow, Elizabeth, donated the house to the city of Anchorage. In 1978 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Restoration began and between 1978 and 1985 the home was restored to its original 1915 condition.
Located at 420 M Street, guided tours of the Oscar Anderson House Museum are available between May 28 and September 1, Tuesdays through Sundays, noon – 4pm. Tours cost $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and no charge for little ones under 5.

Resolution Park and Captain Cook Monument
Also near our law office is Resolution Park, where you will find the monument to Captain Cook. Cook is the famous explorer who explored Cook Inlet in 1778 on the HMS Resolution. The Captain never made it to the Anchorage shore himself, but he sent his ship’s master William Bligh ashore for a look around instead. Bligh is better known for his role in the mutiny on the HMS Bounty. After failing to find a way inland by ship, Cook departed.
Resolution Park is known for its beautiful sunsets and view of Mount Susitna, called “Sleeping Lady” by locals. On a clear day Mt. McKinley is visible to the north. Resolution Park is located at 320 L Street.
